Chapter 19
Mireyah
Awareness came almost as soon as the fog that only sleep could give had completely lifted. And with it my contentment faded away to be replaced by cold fury and horror.
The men I never should have trusted had betrayed me, reminded me how wrong I had been to soften my feelings for them. Because they had turned around and shown me the clearest and purest version of the truth.
Who they were, and what I was to them.
My body throbbed, the area between my legs aching even as I laid there. I stared at the red ceiling of Hollisâ bedroom as the sun beat through the windows and glinted off it, making me squint in the face of the too bright light.
Much as they had hurt everything else - inside and out, the night before.
There was nothing to be done for it in the morning light. It had happened, and I couldn't change it. Just like I couldn't change the way my skin crawled. Crowded into the bed between Hollis and Tate, every inch of bare skin that touched theirs felt diseased.
Dirty.
There was no reason they'd needed to touch me. To take things I didn't want to give - nothing beyond their own pride and selfishness. With an entire school practically kissing their feet, and women like Annalee lining up to fill their needs, taking away my ability to deny them was nothing but cruel.
I shrugged Hollis' arm off my waist, inching my way to the foot of the bed to sneak out unnoticed. The last thing I wanted was to face their triumphant expressions the moment they woke up.
Least of all while I remained naked and vulnerable.
I bumped into Shep who was sprawled out at the foot of the massive bed. How he managed to find enough space for his formidable frame, I could not understand. Nor care.
âMireyah?" he whispered, voice hoarse and grumbly as he spoke. I shot him an alarmed look and abandoned my efforts of being stealthy, glancing around the bedroom in a hurry. With my clothes nowhere in sight, I swallowed and strode into the common area naked. As the sun hadn't risen yet, I could only hope that Annalee wouldn't have arrived to service Char. I scoffed, feeling ridiculous as jealousy surged inside me.
I didn't own him, and I never would. And at that moment, I didnât even know if I wanted to.
My core pulsed with pain as I sprinted from the room, but I ignored it. I needed out.
"Mireyah!" Shep called after me, the scuffle in the bedroom an indicator of him waking the others and the search for clothes beginning.
A glance around the common area confirmed that those clothes they were looking for were probably not in the bedroom where they slept. My dress laid in a pile next to the couch. I swiped the shoes and underwear that were piled on top of it and grabbed my dress from the pile. Tugging it on over my head quickly, I spun to face the stormy, violet eyed Descendant as he raced out of Hollis' room.
